12th Annual 'Celebrate Free Speech Lobbying Days' Scheduled for March 9-10, 2009

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Statewide delegates from the adult entertainment industry will visit Sacramento to meet with lawmakers for the 12th annual Celebrate Free Speech Lobbying Day. The two-day event is scheduled for March 9-10.

The advocacy event is sponsored by the Free Speech Coalition (FSC), the trade association for the adult entertainment industry, seeking to encourage adult entertainment performers, business owners, professionals and supporters to visit the state capitol and become citizen lobbyists for a day.

This year industry representatives will discuss the value that the adult entertainment industry brings to the state of California in the way of jobs and revenue.

"We are watching a couple of bills that are being shopped around," stated Diane Duke, FSC Executive Director.  "One is mandatory condom legislation and the other is a tax on adult entertainment."

Duke stressed the importance of legislators hearing about the adult industry from people who work in the industry. "It is much better for our legislators to hear the truth about our industry from us, rather than the lies from our opponents, who are all too willing to spread misinformation about who we are and what we do," she said.

The day's events will culminate with the highly coveted Free Speech Legislation Reception, sponsored by Wicked Pictures, in which lawmakers, staff, and advocates relax over drinks and refreshments.

This year's schedule:
Lobby Training:    Monday, March 9, 7-9pm
Lobby Day Briefing Breakfast:    Tuesday, March 10, 8:30am
Lobbying at the Capital:    Tuesday, March 10, 9:30am-5:00pm
Wicked Reception:     Tuesday, March 10, 5-8pm

Many FSC supporters have taken part in Lobby Days over the years, including performers Mary Carey, Nina Hartley, Stormy Daniels, Dave Cummings and Kayden Kross. FSC lobbyist Ignacio Hernandez said the event is much-anticipated by legislators in Sacramento and looked forward to, as well as giving adult industry members an opportunity to represent the industry in a positive light.

Call or email FSC to sign-up and for more information (818) 348-9373 or kim@freespeechcoalition.com

Obama creates faith-based office with wide mission
By: Philip Elliott
Posted: 2/5/2009
WASHINGTON -- Declaring that "there is a force for good greater than government," President Barack Obama on Thursday established a White House office of faith-based initiatives with a broader mission than the one overseen by his Republican predecessor. Obama said the new office, which he created by executive order, would reach out to organizations that provide help "no matter their religious or political beliefs." (more)
